• Face and Neck Lift

  As we age, the face is often the most affected area. With sun exposure, a breadth of wonderful expressions, genetics and of course gravity, the face can age us beyond our years and our spirit. As an artist and specialist of facial aesthetics, Dr Kriya focuses not only on tightening the skin but also on restoration of facial volume which decreases with age. By lifting tissue away from the chin and jowls toward the cheeks, Dr Kriya is able to create natural youthful results with all the right shadows and highlights. She most often uses a skin flap and Sub-Smas dissection or Smas-plication technique to achieve natural results without a “pulled” appearance. When considering face lifting techniques it is important to understand facial anatomy. The skin lies above the Smas, which is the fascial layer above the nerve and muscle. Deep plane facelifts, which have become all the rage, lift the skin and Smas as a single unit exposing the underlying nerve. This increases the risk of nerve injury and allows for movement of the skin/facial unit in a single direction. By elevating the skin and Smas/fascia as separate units, Dr Kriya has significantly more control of the direction of movement of each layer. Additionally, she often is able to use the facial layer that droops and stretches with age to augment the cheek bone area to restore volume and the beautiful highlights of youth. She regularly performs her facelifts in conjunction with a neck lift which includes release of muscle or platysmal bands and tightening of the muscle. Neck-lifting may be performed in conjunction with submental liposuction for additional jawline contouring. Whether performed along with facelift or as a standalone procedure, neck lifting is a powerful tool to restore youthful appearance.

• Brow and Eyelid Surgery

  A brow lift or forehead lift uses small incisions in the hairline to remove excess skin of the forehead and elevate the brows. The brows play a significant role in framing the face and with age the excess skin and fullness around the brows and eyelids significantly contribute to an aged appearance. By removing the unnecessary skin and subtly elevating the brows, Dr Kriya is able to create a more youthful, open, refreshed area around the eyes while still maintaining expression. A blepharoplasty or eyelid lift is used to remove the excess skin that weighs down eyelids and causes a droopy appearance with aging. Dr Kriya performs both upper and lower eyelid surgery, removing excess skin and fat when necessary and tightening the muscles around the eyes to create a refreshed youthful appearance. Incisions are either hidden in eyelid creases or on the inside of the lid lining. This more minor procedure can have dramatic yet natural results. For some patients this surgery has a function result by removing skin that blocks vision.

• Rhinoplasty

  Dr Kriya specializes in rhinoplasty or “nose jobs”. The nose is the central feature of the face and even the most subtle changes can have dramatic effects on the aesthetics of the face. Spending most of her specialty training focusing on rhinoplasty, Dr Kriya has studied with some of the top rhinoplasty surgeons in the world and understands just how life altering rhinoplasty can be for the patient. Her results are natural, functional and aesthetic. She not only focuses on the ideal proportions of the nose but constructs the nose in relation to the rest of the face so that every result is unique and appropriate for the patient's facial structure and desires. As an artist, she understands the interplay between light and shape and approaches each case with an expertise in surgical contouring. Rhinoplasty can be performed “open” with a small incision on the outside of the nose between the nostrils. This incision is placed in a position that makes it essentially imperceptible. Rhinoplasty can also be performed “closed” with the incision placed inside the nostrils. The technique used by Dr Kriya is patient specific Rhinoplasty can be a functional procedure used to treat breathing difficulty in patients with deviated septum. It can also be reconstructive post trauma.

• Chin Augmentation

  The chin anchors the jaw line and provides definition of the face shape and structure. As a trained craniofacial surgeon, Dr Kriya expertly corrects both deficient or over prominent jaw lines. She performs chin augmentation either by placing custom implants or by cutting the chin bone and moving it forward. The technique chosen depends on the patient's need and preference. Incisions are generally placed in the gum line although some patients may require a small incision in the crease on the underside of the chin. For those with prominent chin, Dr Kriya is able to move the chin back by creating a cut in the bone and moving it or by shaving the bone. Her background as a trained craniofacial surgeon gives her unique understanding of how to safely manipulate the bones of the face for functional, secure, long lasting and aesthetically pleasing results.

• Facial Feminization

  Dr Kriya trained as a craniofacial surgeon at UCLA with the pioneers of facial feminization. She has significant experience performing facial feminization procedures either as a single stage or in multiple stages, usually per patient need and preference. • Non-Surgical Rejuvenation

  As an artist, Dr Kriya uses Botox and dermal fillers to create better facial balance and harmony. For older patients this procedure can restore a youthful appearance. Facial fillers and Botox can also be used to change facial shape. Dr Kriya essentially paints with a needle to create contoured but natural results. She focuses on the areas around the eyes, the cheek bones, the nasal tip, the lips and the jaw line depending on the patients’ needs and desires.

• Pediatrics

  Dr Kriya is a craniofacial trained plastic surgeon who has a passion for working with children. Her playful compassionate personality helps both children and their parents to feel at ease as they navigate their surgical experience. She has traveled on several mission trips to assist children with craniofacial clefting. She is an expert at cleft lip and palate repair as well as cleft rhinoplasty and orthognathic surgery. Additionally, Dr Kriya performs otoplasty to correct prominent or misshapen ears and she is skilled at performing both autologous and medpor microtia repair. Dr Kriya also performs more minor pediatric surgical procedures such as hemangioma or benign lesion excisions and laceration repairs and scar revisions. Dr Kriya follows her pediatric patients into adulthood and works with other physicians and treatment teams to ensure her pediatric patients receive comprehensive care.

• Orthognathic Surgery

  Orthognathic surgery is used to correct the projection of the midface or maxilla and the jaw or mandible. This is largely a functional surgery for optimized bite to prevent pain with biting and chewing caused by TMJ joint dysfunction. However, aligning the upper and lower jaws significantly impacts the projection of nose and lip position and how the soft tissues drape over the underlying bones. Proper jaw alignment significantly impacts facial aesthetics.

• Reconstruction

  Dr Kriya performs facial reconstruction after accidental trauma or cancer excision. She works with dermatologists and Mohs surgeons post excision to perform skin grafts or local or regional skin and soft tissue flaps for closure of skin after cancer removal. Her goal is to restore the facial anatomy paying close attention to both form and function. After accidental trauma such as lip or nasal tip avulsion, Dr Kriya uses similar techniques to move tissue around to close wounds and to recreate the patient’s natural anatomy with as little scaring and deformation as possible.
